Starting a run

One client, one period, and why the dates are stored rather than assumed.

A run belongs to one client and one period. Start it from the client's Scrutiny tab, or from New, then Scrutiny run, which asks for the client first.

Pick the financial year and the run is created covering the whole of it. Asking again for a period that already has a run opens that run rather than making a second one.

Why the period is stored, not assumed

A run records its own start and end dates rather than deriving them from the year. That is what lets you narrow a run to a quarter or a month inside the year, which is the practical answer when Tally truncates a busy month.

Findings are always filtered to the run's dates, on every read, so a run over a quarter reads only that quarter even when the vouchers behind it cover a whole year.

One run, one population, one set of parameters

Everything a run reports is judged under the parameters that run holds. Changing a threshold changes the findings, so a past run keeps the parameters it was judged under and a new judgement means running again.
