Settings and staying up to date

The three settings tabs, testing the Tally connection, and why an old Connector can block a fetch.

The Connector's settings are short, and most people never change them. This covers what is there, and how updates work.

General

Start the connector when I sign in to WindowsOn by default

Adds a startup entry. You can confirm it under Task ManagerStartup.

Open this window on launchOff by default

Off, it runs in the notification area and opens when you click its icon.

Closing the window keeps it runningOn by default

On, the close button hides the window and fetches keep working. Off, closing quits it — and OptiVida can no longer reach Tally.

Notification preferences are saved but not yet acted on

You can set preferences for Tally going up or down, sign-in problems, completed fetches and available updates. The Connector does not raise Windows notifications yet — status changes show in its window and on the tray icon.

The Diagnostics card holds the local address, the settings file and the log folder. Support will ask for these if something goes wrong.

Tally

Current company shows what the background check last saw: the company name and its financial year.

Test the connection pings Tally right now, separately from that background check. Reach for it when the web app says Tally is offline but Tally looks perfectly open on screen — it tells you which of the two is confused.

Fetch performance records how many fetches this Connector has served, the average duration, and the last one. Useful when a pull feels slower than it used to.

Account

Shows the OptiVida email this device is paired to, the device ID, and when it was paired. It also holds Unpair this device.

Tip

Unpairing is covered in Unpairing and moving to a new machine.

Updates

The Connector checks once a day on its own. About shows the installed version alongside the latest available, and lets you check now rather than waiting.

When an update is ready the Connector tells you without being asked. Home carries a notice naming the new version for as long as it is uninstalled, and the other screens show a strip you can dismiss. Both lead to About, which is where the install happens. Installing takes a moment and your pairing survives it.

Warning

An out-of-date Connector can refuse a fetch outright. Newer reports sometimes ask Tally for data an older build does not know how to read — the web app will say so and point you at the update rather than returning partial figures.

Logs

Logs shows today's activity from this computer: a line each time the Connector talks to Tally or to OptiVida. You can filter by level and search it.

Nothing here leaves the machine unless you export it. If support asks for a log, this is where you save one from.

Note

A quiet log is a good sign, not a broken one. The Connector writes when it does something, and it is idle between your fetches.
