Unpairing and moving to a new machine

Releasing the old computer before you pair the new one, and what signing out does.

A pairing belongs to one computer. Replacing that computer means releasing the old pairing and making a new one.

Unpair the old machine first

  1. Open the Connector on the old computer

    From the notification area.

  2. Go to Settings, then Account

  3. Choose Unpair this device

This removes the certificate this computer holds. OptiVida stops being able to reach Tally here.

Then install and pair on the new machine as you did the first time.

Where unpairing lives

In the Connector, not in the web app. SettingsTally connector in OptiVida reports status and offers the download; it has no device list and no revoke button.

If you no longer have the old machine

Signing out of OptiVida unpairs the device. So if the old computer is gone, lost, or simply beyond reach, sign out of OptiVida and sign back in — the old pairing is released and you can pair the new machine.

The Connector on the old machine, if it ever runs again, will say plainly that it was unpaired and offer to pair afresh.

Warning

Do this before disposing of a computer that had the Connector installed. An unpaired Connector can read nothing, but leaving a machine paired to your account is not a state worth carrying around.

What the old Connector will say

"This device was unpaired from the OptiVida web app"

Someone released it deliberately.

"You signed out of OptiVida, which unpaired this device"

The sign-out did it.

Either way it stops serving fetches and offers to pair again. Nothing is lost — pairing again restores it in under a minute.

Two machines, both with Tally

If you genuinely work across two computers that each run Tally, install and pair the Connector on both. Each holds its own certificate, and OptiVida uses whichever machine your browser is on at the time.

Tip

Just changing browsers on the same machine needs nothing — the pairing belongs to the computer.
