What it can and cannot do
It reads, it never writes, every fetch is one you started, and it is tied to the device you paired.
You are installing something that can read your clients' books. Here is exactly what it does, and what it will not do.
It reads. It never writes.
The Connector pulls data out of Tally. It has no code path that writes back — it cannot create a voucher, alter a ledger, change a master or touch your company file.
Whatever OptiVida shows you, and whatever it produces, is derived from a copy. Your books are exactly as you left them.
Every fetch is one you started
There is no sync, no schedule and no background upload. The Connector sits idle until you press a button in the web app; then it reads what that request asked for, hands it back, and goes idle again.
Leaving it running does not mean data is moving.
It is tied to this device
Pairing issues a certificate that only this machine holds. Another computer running the same installer is not your Connector until it is paired in its own right.
You can revoke that certificate at any time by unpairing, from the Connector itself. Signing out of OptiVida also unpairs it.
What is actually read
For a given company and financial year: ledgers and their balances, the group structure they sit in, stock items, outstanding bills, and the company's own particulars. Enough to build a trial balance and the statements that follow from it.
Not read: vouchers you did not ask about, other companies in the same Tally installation, or anything from a year outside the request.
Two things it deliberately does not do
- It does not age your bills
Outstanding bills come across as Tally holds them. Ageing is a judgement, and OptiVida does not make it on your behalf.
- It never substitutes zero
If a figure is not there, OptiVida reports it as missing rather than quietly treating it as nil. A blank you can see is safer than a zero you cannot.
What stays on your machine
The Connector's own log — a line each time it talks to Tally or to OptiVida — is written locally and stays there. It leaves only if you export it and send it to support yourself.
Requirements, in short
- WindowsRequired
The Connector is a Windows program. There is no macOS or Linux build.
- Tally Prime or Tally ERP 9Required
Open, on the same machine, with the company loaded at the moment you fetch.
- Port 9000Required
Tally's connectivity port. It must be free and switched on inside Tally.
- The same machine as your browserRequired
OptiVida reaches the Connector locally, so the two must be on one computer.

Next: Installing on Windows.
