What the Connector is
Tally runs on your computer, not in the browser. The Connector is the bridge between the two.
The Connector is a small Windows program that lets OptiVida read Tally on your computer.
Why it exists
Tally Prime runs on your machine. OptiVida runs in a browser. A web page cannot reach a program on your own computer — browsers prevent exactly that, and rightly so.
The Connector sits between the two. It talks to Tally over your machine's own local port, and it answers OptiVida when you ask for a year's figures.
Note
Nothing about your books travels anywhere in the background. The Connector has no schedule of its own — it acts when you press a button in the web app, and not otherwise.
What needs it
- Financial statementsRequired
Built from the year's trial balance, read from Tally.
- CMA reportsRequired, unless you upload an ITR or type the figures
Fetched from Tally for the historical and estimated years.
- Tax audit reportsRequired, unless you enter everything manually
Fetched from Tally, then reviewed clause by clause.
- CertificatesNot needed
You type the figures in. A machine that has never seen Tally can issue them.
One per computer
The Connector is installed on the machine where Tally is, and paired once to your OptiVida account. That pairing is what tells OptiVida this particular computer is yours.
It follows that your browser must be on that same machine when you fetch. Working from a laptop while Tally sits on the office desktop will not reach it.
Tip
Replacing a machine? Unpair the old one first — Unpairing and moving to a new machine.
What you install
A single Windows installer, downloaded from SettingsTally connector in the web app. Once installed it lives in the notification area and runs quietly in the background.
The current version is 0.1.7. It updates itself.
