Pairing your device

Linking the Connector to your OptiVida account once, and confirming it in the browser.

Pairing links this computer to your OptiVida account. You confirm it once, in your browser, and the Connector never asks again.

What pairing does

It issues a certificate that only this machine holds. From then on, OptiVida knows that a fetch arriving from this computer is genuinely yours — and no other machine can pretend to be it.

It is per computer, not per client or per report.

Pair it

  1. Open the Connector

From the notification area, by the clock.

  2. Choose Pair this device

The Connector shows a device fingerprint — a short string identifying this machine.

  3. Your browser opens on OptiVida

Sign in there if you are not already.

  4. Check the fingerprint matches

Compare the one on the web page with the one in the Connector window. They must be identical.

  5. Confirm

The Connector shows Paired and returns to its main screen.

Warning

Do not confirm a fingerprint that does not match the one in front of you. That check is the whole security of pairing — it is what proves the browser is authorising this computer and not somebody else's.

Afterwards

The Connector's Account tab shows which OptiVida email it is paired to, this machine's device ID, and when it was paired.

In the web app, SettingsTally connector should now show Connected, with this computer's name and the Connector's version.

If pairing does not finish

Nothing happens when the browser opens

Sign in to OptiVida first, then start pairing again.

"Paired to a different OptiVida account"

This machine is already linked to another sign-in. Unpair it from the Connector's Account tab, then pair again.

The fingerprint does not match

Cancel. Start pairing again from the Connector rather than confirming.

What unpairs it

Two things, and nothing else: unpairing from the Connector's Account tab, or signing out of OptiVida. In both cases the Connector says so plainly and offers to pair again.
