What it does
Statement lines become Receipt, Payment and Contra vouchers, and why nothing is posted without your approval.
OptiLedger takes a client's bank statement and turns it into vouchers in the client's Tally company, with you deciding the ledger for every line. In the app it is the Ledger entry in the main menu.
What goes in and what comes out
Before you start
Everything OptiLedger needs is checked before a voucher is sent, and the line tells you what was missing. Checking these once saves the round trip.
- Connector 0.1.8 or later
- Running, paired, and able to reach Tally. Older connectors do not have the posting routes; About in the connector shows the version.
- The client's company open and current
- The connector posts only into the company whose name the client is bound to. If several companies are loaded, make that one the current one.
- Books begin on or before the statement
- A line dated before the day the company's books begin is refused before it is sent.
- The bank account is a ledger under a bank group
- Bank Accounts, Bank OD A/c or Bank OCC A/c. You pick it at upload; it is one leg of every voucher.
- Every ledger you will post to already exists
- OptiLedger never creates a ledger. Suggestions and the picker are limited to the company's own list, spelt exactly as Tally has them.
- Receipt, Payment and Contra voucher types active
- The three types OptiLedger uses. Their numbering can be automatic or manual; both are handled.
- A statement from the bank portal
- PDF, Excel or CSV as the bank produced it. A scanned or photographed statement has no text to read and is refused at upload.
The period selected in Tally (Alt+F2) is not on this list. In every live run so far, changing it changed nothing about whether a voucher posted; what it decides is which vouchers Tally's Day Book shows you. Set it to the statement's months when you go to look at what was posted, and if a refusal ever names the period, that is the one case to change it before retrying.
You upload the statement as the bank gave it — PDF, Excel or CSV. OptiVida reads every transaction out of it, checks that what it read adds up, and shows you the lines.
For each line you choose, or accept, the Tally ledger on the other side of the entry. The bank account itself is already known: you name it when you upload. When you post, each approved line becomes one voucher in Tally:
- Receipt
Money into the bank. The bank ledger is debited; your chosen ledger is credited.
- Payment
Money out. Your chosen ledger is debited; the bank ledger is credited.
- Contra
Money out to cash or to another bank account of the same entity. Same two legs, Tally's name for a transfer.
The voucher type is worked out from the direction and from the group of the ledger you chose. You do not pick it.
What it is not
It is not a report. Nothing is generated and nothing is charged. It writes into your client's books, which is why every line waits for your approval and why the ledger list comes from Tally rather than from anywhere else.
Note
Only ledgers that exist in the open company can be chosen. If the right ledger is missing, create it in Tally and re-fetch the list — OptiVida never creates masters on your behalf.
